It always amazes me when a few minutes walk can take you away from almost the entire population of a city of several million people. The Royal National Park in southern Sydney is a great place for a mid winter stroll. Even a group of 8 year olds, a 6 year old and a 5 year old can manage it. The fact that the minutes lead to hours may have something to do with the paucity of humans.

Heading down into NY was nice, the weather had cleared, the sea was flat and the morning was perfect for a run down the East River.


 

The first day was pretty ugly, with a depression off the coast driving rain and wind everywhere. Still we made it to the top of Long Island Sound after a day of crunching into the short, steep seas that seem to enjoy themselves in this part of the world.

And here he is, Mr Firefighter Tom in all his glory. Of course, it is about 5,000C under all that firefighting outfit, but, as you can see from the look on his face, that doesn’t matter at all!
